Frankfurt - general
- Frankfurt is an important European financial capital - home to over 400 banks,
including the European Central Bank, the headquarters of all of Germany's
major financial institutions as well as the European base for many foreign ones.
It has the world's fourth most important stock exchange.
- The city is served by a world-class road & motorway infrastructure. Its
geographic position on an east-west / north-south axis makes it an attractive
strategic location for many companies. Many leading corporations have their
headquarters in the greater Frankfurt area, including Lufthansa, Merck, Opel,
Boehringer, Braun, AEG, Kodak, Motorola and Sony.
- Frankfurt has a world-class rail, tram and underground network. It has
Europe's biggest railway station with a passenger throughput of 320,000 daily.
- Frankfurt airport is Europe's biggest by cargo, its second biggest by
passenger numbers, caters for 45 million passengers annually and employs
50,000 people.
- Frankfurt has Germany's leading and the world's third biggest exhibition centre.
It hosts some of the world's biggest trade fairs such as the Frankfurt Motor Show
and The Book Fair. The city also has numerous cultural attractions, including
some of Germany's leading museums, an opera house and a brand new
football stadium completed for the 2006 World Cup.
- Frankfurt's dependence on service industries, especially on financial services,
gives it an economic edge over other European cities more reliant on
manufacturing industries.
